What is Field Notes?

Field Notes from the Work (and the Wild) is a portrait + audio + reflection series by Lindsey Lerner, that captures the unseen labor, rituals, and stories that usually go unnoticed.

Instead of focusing on polished outcomes, Field Notes documents the scaffolding that holds everything up — the messy middle, the daily practices, the quiet revolutions.

Each piece includes:

• Portraits — photographed in the places people feel most themselves.
• Audio stories — intimate conversations about process and meaning.
• Written reflections — threads that tie the personal to the cultural.

The project is building toward:

• The Field Year: 40+ stories archived across 12 months.
• Field Notes LIVE: a flagship NYC exhibit and gathering (300–500 people).
• Future outputs: book, docu-series, and touring salons.
